When the Mother of a Prodigal Prays

'When The Mother Of A Prodigal Prays '

Somewhere the poor mother of a prodigal son cries,

Her eyes reddened  and not taking in much at all,

For she’s seeing her son through the eyes of love

Not how the world sees him at all…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

For every thief is some poor mother’s child,

He has captured her heart in love’s ransom-

Yet to her she still sees the son of her youth;

But he’s stolen all of her dreams…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

Desperately and frantically the murderer flees

Yet from this one thing he can’t ever flee-

The love of his mother bowing in sorrow,

Bemoaning a love he can’t kill…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

For every trembling junkie finally taking a fix

There’s a hurting mother just wondering why

The life that she gave him just isn’t enough;

And she bows her head slowly and cries…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

The gavel thumps and the sentence is passed

She is ushered out as her son’s led away.

As tears flow down each side of her face

She still finds the strength to pray…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

So for every news article that you ever read

Of sons that have gone their own way,

Remember that he has a mother who cares

And lift her to God when you pray…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

"A True Blessing"

"A True Blessing"

Ever since that wonderful day my love and I became as one,
I realised that our married life’s journey had only just begun.
I asked the Lord to show me how my joy could be complete,
And He brought to mind His Holy Word as I sat at His feet.

He told me that I would have to be willing to lay down my life
In showing the sacrificial loving that befits a godly wife.
He told me if I surrendered to His great marriage plan,
I would be forever blessed with a very happy man.

For I was born a woman who was called to be a wife,
A woman of great value and a pearl of great price.
I was called to be a helper to a man I call my own,
To lovingly care for him and make for us a home.

To always be thinking of him and how to please him best,
And to be a shoulder to lean on if he should need to rest.
I’d be someone he could talk to without fear of betrayal,
A listener and confidante not given to telling tales.

I decided I would seek the Lord daily and ask for His direction
In making me an instrument of His peace and affection.
A wife and treasure who would bless her man all her days,
In meeting all of his needs through learning of his ways.

So I will learn by prayerful watching and I will take every measure
To be a willing helper who brings her man much gain and pleasure
In putting him above all else except for our God in Heaven,
Showing him God’s marriage plan by being a true blessing.
‘The heart of her husband safely trusts her: so he will have no lack of gain: she does him good and not evil all the days of her life’ Proverbs 31: 11-12

"A Special Love"

"A Special Love"

Mother, this love is so special that we share,
At times I take for granted your love and care,
And because today is a special day
I want to share this love and say
I really think the world of you,
Not only today but all year through.

He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 113:9

"She will melt his heart"

"She will melt his heart"

She was asleep, perhaps dreaming, if unborn babies dream
In a watery world that was quickly shrinking as she grew.
Suddenly an urgent jiggle roused her from her slumber....
About to cry, she sought comfort in her thumb...
That and her mother's heart beat her constant companions...

This jiggling upset her, making her kick and twirl-
But after coaxing, she was pronounced a perfect baby girl.
Her mother beamed, wiping gel from her fecund stomach,
Happily unaware that her husband scowled in disappointment,
For the child was not perfect: she was a girl...

Her mother's thoughts turned to pink ribbons and bows,
He grieved a son to kick a ball with and continue the family line...
All quiet within, the little babe returned to her slumber,
Sucking on fingers that would wrap round her father's,
Unaware that soon she will melt her Daddy's heart.

Lo, children [are] an heritage of the LORD: [and] the fruit of the womb [is his] reward. Psalm 127:3

An unborn baby's prayer

"An Unborn Baby's Prayer"

I love being so close to you Mummy,

I was lulled to sleep when you were walking today, the gentle warm waters rocked me so.

Did you feel me kick today Mummy?
I have been practicing so long for you to feel me, I want you to know I am well and growing.

I have hiccups tonight,
I just can't stop them coming and it feels so strange-I hope they don't keep you awake too.

I did a somersault for you Mummy,
I turned over and back again cos I found I can still do it, I won't be able to soon but I s'pose that will make you glad!

Today I heard for the first time, Mummy-
I heard your heart beating slow and steady next to mine; will your heart always be close to me?

You have a lovely voice
that I will recognise at once, for I woke and heard you singing-will you sing to me when I'm cradled in your arms?

You must have been in sunshine today,
for I saw red colours shining through my fused eyelids. I want so much to see you and the colours you wear.

O how I wish I could always be this close, Mummy,
protected and stretching and growing under your heart, but I know you tire easily so I must be in your arms!

I want you to love me forever, Mummy-
I've prayed God will make my skin really velvety soft, so you will want to touch me and cover me in kisses.

God's told me He's preparing me as a gift for you,
He's shaping me in a secret place known to just us three…

I've asked God to help you love me, Mummy,
to make me the best baby just for you- He whispered," Just relax and be yourself, that's all you have to do"
