When the Mother of a Prodigal Prays

'When The Mother Of A Prodigal Prays '

Somewhere the poor mother of a prodigal son cries,

Her eyes reddened  and not taking in much at all,

For she’s seeing her son through the eyes of love

Not how the world sees him at all…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

For every thief is some poor mother’s child,

He has captured her heart in love’s ransom-

Yet to her she still sees the son of her youth;

But he’s stolen all of her dreams…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

Desperately and frantically the murderer flees

Yet from this one thing he can’t ever flee-

The love of his mother bowing in sorrow,

Bemoaning a love he can’t kill…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

For every trembling junkie finally taking a fix

There’s a hurting mother just wondering why

The life that she gave him just isn’t enough;

And she bows her head slowly and cries…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

The gavel thumps and the sentence is passed

She is ushered out as her son’s led away.

As tears flow down each side of her face

She still finds the strength to pray…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

So for every news article that you ever read

Of sons that have gone their own way,

Remember that he has a mother who cares

And lift her to God when you pray…

For somewhere the mother of a prodigal prays…

O how this poor mother prays.

‘Simply Love’

‘Simply Love’

I saw them walking today, her smaller hand held in his,
His arthritic thumb bent at an angle, yet still firmly and protectively holding onto hers.
She lagged behind a bit, her aged legs unable to hurry-
She seemed content to let him lead as he had undoubtedly done all their lives.
She never even glanced at the road as they crossed,

So used to having him lead well: faith in his competence made her trust him.
What trials had they overcome, what life experiences had they shared,
Stumbling and standing together through life’s journey,
Facing all things together whilst living as one?
In such a simple act, I saw the simplicity of love –
So precious though elusive and seldom found:- they held it in their hearts and hands.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  1 Corinthians 13:4-7

"A True Blessing"

"A True Blessing"

Ever since that wonderful day my love and I became as one,
I realised that our married life’s journey had only just begun.
I asked the Lord to show me how my joy could be complete,
And He brought to mind His Holy Word as I sat at His feet.

He told me that I would have to be willing to lay down my life
In showing the sacrificial loving that befits a godly wife.
He told me if I surrendered to His great marriage plan,
I would be forever blessed with a very happy man.

For I was born a woman who was called to be a wife,
A woman of great value and a pearl of great price.
I was called to be a helper to a man I call my own,
To lovingly care for him and make for us a home.

To always be thinking of him and how to please him best,
And to be a shoulder to lean on if he should need to rest.
I’d be someone he could talk to without fear of betrayal,
A listener and confidante not given to telling tales.

I decided I would seek the Lord daily and ask for His direction
In making me an instrument of His peace and affection.
A wife and treasure who would bless her man all her days,
In meeting all of his needs through learning of his ways.

So I will learn by prayerful watching and I will take every measure
To be a willing helper who brings her man much gain and pleasure
In putting him above all else except for our God in Heaven,
Showing him God’s marriage plan by being a true blessing.
‘The heart of her husband safely trusts her: so he will have no lack of gain: she does him good and not evil all the days of her life’ Proverbs 31: 11-12

"A Special Love"

"A Special Love"

Mother, this love is so special that we share,
At times I take for granted your love and care,
And because today is a special day
I want to share this love and say
I really think the world of you,
Not only today but all year through.

He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 113:9

A little time to slumber

"A little time to slumber"

A little time to slumber all my days spent in the sun,
My idle hands were folded my daily chores not done.
I wasn’t at all rebellious as into the sky I’d gaze,
I just left my daily duties as in the sun I bathed.

I read my book for hours dishes soaking in the sink,
The meat still in the freezer for I didn’t stop to think
What I needed for dinner it lay frozen in a lump;
I’d serve meat of something be it chops or steak or rump.

Just a minute of my surfing turned to hours of my day,
As I sat online chatting to people far away.
Imagine then my panic as at last I looked around,
To see the clock now telling  my man was homeward bound.

What a rush of my adrenaline making me quickly scamper
To launder clothes still waiting in the dirty laundry hamper.
The bed was pulled up in a hurry the dishes washed and left to dry,
As I boiled up some veggies and set the meat to fry.

Which would likely take forever for it hadn’t completely thawed
And I so wanted dinner ready as soon as my man hit the door.
Feeling very guilty as I served our dinner late
I decided my many forums would henceforth have to wait.

“Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep; so shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man” Proverbs 24:34

A mother's love

"A mother's love"

In joyful love and amazement the young Eve’s heart lurched
As she gazed at the infant she’d just brought to birth,
And the depth of her love took her quite by surprise
As she looked at Cain’s face with its big blue eyes.
This gift from the LORD brought her to first know..
Pain mingled with joy which followed to show
A mother's love...

How perfectly shaped his head covered in fine down
What strength in his grip on her finger he clasped round,
How tiny each feature, how perfect, how flawless-
How soft was the skin still wet from the waters
That protected and comforted him just moments ago
When the world still had no babe nor mother to know
A mother’s love…

Joy swept through her previously unknown;
Eve knew it was the same joy God towards her had shown-
Feelings of elation in the life of a new living being
And possibilities of shared love previously unseen;
Deep feelings of protection and for the nurturing of
This delightful new creature and object of
A mother’s love…

This love felt so strange as it burst in Eve’s soul
And she knew that as a woman she truly felt whole,
For she sensed that as a mother she took a part in creation,
And thanking God, full of thankful celebration,
She lifted her son to the Father above,
Amazed by the strength and power of
A mother’s love…

All through the ages this same love formed in Eve’s heart
Has been passed down to her daughters as they too take part
In the greatest of mysteries known to man,
The strong feeling of partnership in God’s plan
Of the birth and the nurture and the survival of
God’s most precious of blessings so needful of
A mother’s love.

We give You thanks

"We Give You Thanks"

Lord, as we gather at this table
May we be truly grateful
For the bounty You have given us.
We thank you for the earth and rain,
The good harvest and the wholesome grain
That went into our daily bread
And kept the stock that kept us fed.
Thank you for the hands that cooked and baked,
And for the water that our thirst slaked.
Please accept our thanks as we honour You
For Your goodness in giving us this food.

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of [our] lips giving thanks to his name. Hebrews 13:15

What is a home?

"What is a Home?"

A home is a haven and a place of rest,
A sanctuary where loving acceptance go
Hand and hand with teachings of Christ,
Who is invited to dwell by His Spirit,
And rule as rightful Head.

A home is the solid earthly foundation
For God’s Word to be lived out daily
And His Love shown
Even in small things.

Home is a place of worship
Where true expressions of faith
And love for God can be expressed
In the most intimate
Of relationships,
The family.

A home is a blessing from the Lord.
May you find the peace
And love of God
In your home
